Here’s how messages work — and what’s different between Xplora Watches and the HMD Fusion X1 Phone.
🧒 Messaging on Xplora Watches

Xplora watches are built for safe and simple communication. Messaging happens only through the Xplora app, keeping everything in a secure, parent-approved environment. What can kids and parents do? Good to know: ❌ Xplora watches don’t support regular SMS 👫 Two Xplora watches can’t message each other — only voice calls are possible ⌨️ There’s no keyboard on the watch because the screen is too small for typing 📱 Since all messages go through the app, contacts need an Xplora account to chat with the watch |
How to send messages from the app
You can send messages quickly using the options in the Hub or from the top of your device profile in the app.
✉️ Preset message → Tap one of the ready-made messages at the bottom of the chat
✉️ Text → Type in the text box and tap the arrow to send
🎤 Voice message → Tap the mic, hold the red button to record, then send
😊 Emoji → Tap the smiley face and pick an emoji
🖼️ Photo → Tap the + icon, choose “Upload image,” and select a photo
📷 Take a new photo → Tap the + icon, select “Take a picture,” snap it, then tap “Use Photo”
🎥 Video → (Not currently available in the app)
How to send messages from the watch
Swipe left on the watch menu and tap the chat bubble icon to open Chat. Then scroll through the contact list and tap the person you want to message.
✉️ Preset message → Tap the purple button, scroll and select a message
🎤 Voice message → Tap the mic, hold to record (max 15 seconds), then release to send
😊 Emoji → Swipe right, tap the emoji icon, and select one
🖼️ From gallery → Swipe right, tap the image icon, pick a photo, and send
📷 Take photo → Swipe right, tap the camera icon, take a picture, then send
🎥 Video (available for certain models) → Swipe right, tap the red video button, record, then send
💡 You can also download photos from the chat and save them on your device:
You can save photos your child sends you:
- Open the photo in the Xplora app.
- Tap the download icon in the upper-right corner.
- The image will be saved to your phone’s photo gallery.
📸 You’ll need to grant permission for the app to access your photo album.p
📎 Please note: Photos and videos must be sent one by one through the chat.
It’s not possible to download media from the watch directly to a computer via cable.
📱 Messaging on the HMD Fusion X1 Phone
Once your child moves to the Fusion X1 Phone, they’ll be able to send and receive messages just like on a regular smartphone — but still with your rules in place.
✅ The HMD Fusion X1 Phone supports SMS and messaging apps you choose and install
✅ Typing is available, just like on any smartphone
✅ Messaging is only allowed with contacts you've approved in the Whitelist menu
