Calls on Xplora devices

Xplora devices are designed to help your child stay connected with family and friends in a safe, controlled environment.

Who can call your child?

Parents can add up to 50 trusted contacts to the device’s contact list — this can include family members, close friends, or caregivers. Only contacts saved on the device can call your child or receive calls from them.

By default, the device won’t receive calls from unknown numbers, nor can it place calls to numbers outside the contact list.

❗ Xplora watches do not support calls from hidden numbers or numbers in non-standard formats. Make sure your phone number is visible so your call can go through.

How to allow your child to call or receive calls from anyone

As your child gets older and you want to give them more freedom, you can turn off the contact whitelist. This allows the device to call and receive calls from numbers outside the approved contact list.

To do this:

  1. Open your child’s device profile in the Xplora Guardian app.
  2. Scroll down to Device Settings.
  3. Toggle off Whitelist contacts only.
  4. Now, your child will be able to call, and be called by, any number.

How calls work

📱 Guardians and approved contacts can call the device directly through the Xplora app or by dialing the phone number linked to the device.

⌚ Your child can make calls by opening the Phone feature on their watch or HMD Fusion X1 phone and selecting a contact.

💡 You can add a photo to each contact in the Xplora app to help your child recognize who they’re calling.


Traditional calls and VoLTE

Xplora devices use both traditional voice minutes and Voice over LTE (VoLTE) technology for calls.

If a call is made over a 4G connection using VoLTE, you'll see an HD icon on the screen.

⚠️ Since 3G and 2G networks are being phased out, VoLTE is becoming the standard for voice calls. For the best experience, we recommend using an Xplora Connect subscription or a provider that supports VoLTE.
