Messaging on Xplora devices

Here’s how messages work — and how they differ between the Xplora watches and the HMD Fusion X1 Phone.

🧒 Messaging on Xplora Watches

Xplora watches are designed for simple, secure communication. Messaging is only available through the Xplora app, which keeps everything within a closed and parent-approved system. What can children and parents do? ✔️ Send and receive preset messages ✔️ Send and receive voice messages ✔️ Parents and approved contacts can type longer messages from the app ✔️ Share photos and videos (available on certain models) ✔️ Share emojis Important to know: ❌ Xplora watches do not support SMS 👫 Two watches can’t send messages to each other — only calls are possible ⌨️ The small screen makes it hard to type, even for little fingers — so there’s no keyboard on the watch. 📱Since all communication happens through the Xplora app, all contacts need an Xplora account to be able to exchange message with the watch.

How to send messages from the app

Use the quick access options in the Hub to send a message (or call) the watch. You can also find the Message option at the top of your Device profile.

✉️ Preset text → Predefined messages appear at the bottom of the chat.
✉️ Text → Type your message in the text field and tap the arrow to send.
🎤 Voice message → Tap the mic icon, press the red button to record, pause, and send.
😊 Emoji → Tap the smiley icon and choose an emoji to send.
🖼️ Photo → Tap the + icon, select Upload image, and choose a photo to send.
📷 New photo → Tap the + icon, select Take a picture, snap a photo, and tap Use Photo to send.
🎥 Video (currently not available)

How to send messages from the watch

Swipe left on the watch’s menu and tap the chat bubble icon to open the Chat. Then, scroll through the contact list and tap the name or picture of the person you want to message.

✉️ Preset text → Tap the purple button (bottom left), scroll and tap the message
🎤 Voice message → Tap the mic icon, hold to record (15s max), then release
😊 Emoji → Swipe right, tap the emoji, choose one
🖼️ From gallery → Swipe right, tap the landscape icon, pick a photo and send
📷 New photo → Swipe right, tap the camera icon, take a picture, then send
🎥 Video (available for certain models) → Swipe right, tap the red play button, record, and send

💡 You can also download photos from the chat and save them on your device:

1. In the app, open the photo your child sent you.
2. Once open, tap the "Download" icon in the upper-right corner, the photo will then be saved to your phone's gallery.
3. If prompted, grant the necessary permissions for the app to access your photo album and save the image.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to download photos or videos directly on to a laptop via cable.

📱 Messaging on the HMD Fusion X1 Phone

Once your child switches to the Fusion X1 Phone, they can send and receive messages like on a regular smartphone — but still with the limits you set:

✔️ HMD Fusion X1 Phone uses SMS and any messaging app you approve and install
✔️ Typing is supported, just like a regular smartphone
✔️ Messaging is only possible with contacts allowed by guardians in the Whitelist menu
